The Drum Calls us All

Date & Location TBA

Manito Ahbee introduces The Drum Calls Us All. It is an evening of musical entertainment showcasing the talents of dancers, drummers, musicians, and invited guests into the circle as they demonstrate what they have learned about Pow Wow dancing.

Manito Ahbee is partnering with non-Indigenous community leaders, partners and friends to teach them how to dance in a variety of Pow Wow styles in a live Pow Wow Challenge.

Each person will be paired with an experienced dancer who will mentor them. They will be taught the dance styles but will also learn about their mentor’s personal story of what being a Pow Wow dancer means to them. Each mentor will lend their regalia to their partners for the performance. Each piece of the dancer’s regalia signifies something special and unique to that person and may even be a treasured heirloom passed down through generations. The mentor is trusting them with their history.

Another component of The Drums Calls Us All is the Indigenous Artist Showcase featuring performances by First Nation, Metis and Inuit artists.

Also as part of the evening, Pow Wow 101 is an opportunity to educate non-Indigenous people in the community about Indigenous culture and traditions. The audience will witness the teachings of the regalia and the meaning behind the various Pow Wow Dance styles.

The Drum Calls Us All is a highlight of the Manito Ahbee Festival!
