Will Belcourt is an award-winning artist from Edmonton, Alberta who has garnered respect and attention for his live shows as well as his career as a recording artist. With five full length
albums to date that include “Full Moon Blanket” (2007), “Obliterate” (2009), “Epoch” (2011),
“Crazy Life” (2013), “Annie Baby” (2015), he has received numerous nominations from award shows that include the APCMAS and CAMAS in categories for Best Pop album, Single of the Year Songwriter of the Year, Best Album Cover Design, Best New Artist, Best Producer/Engineer , Best Rock Album, Best Male Artist and Best Song Single, Best Rock Album, Best Group or Duo. In 2011, at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards in Toronto he won “Best Rock Album” for the “Epoch”.
On February 2, 2015 Will was honored and recognized by the City of Edmonton through the 2015 Cultural Diversity in the Arts Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund Awards. The program was
established by the Edmonton Arts Council to recognize that artists from all parts of the world that enrich and inspire Edmonton’s cultural scene. During the evening event, which was held at the Timms Centre for the Arts, Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson handed out awards. He has performed and appeared television, radio and online programs and has been featured in print for various magazines, newspapers, and online blogs and his music is in heavy rotation on radios around the world. He has toured extensively honing his musicality in bands ranging from rock to solo acoustic showcases. He delivers wherever he goes and has had the opportunity to
share the stage with many great artists such as Shane Yellowbird, Tom Jackson, Laura Vinson, Digging Roots, Dwight Yoakam, Big Sugar, Billie Joe Green, Star Nayea, Donny Peraunteau, Buffy St Marie and many more.
Music from his albums have been selected for the award winning television shows that include “Blackstone”, “Sky and Chang” as a featured tracks and his music continues to climb indie and college radio charts across North America. He has been featured as artist of the month on CFWE
98.5FM, and has charted numerous times on national radio and the National Aboriginal Countdown on NCI Radio, which features some of today’s finest musical acts and performers.
His career is headed into a larger arena where new and old audiences are now feeling the impact, and appreciate his artistic voice and he has played and continues to line up shows and gigs at some of the most prestigious showcase events in North America, notably Walk For Nations (Filmed by CBC and APTN), Aboriginal Music Week (All My Relations Stage) Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (televised performance), Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (televised performance), REZX Magazine Launch, Canada Day in Edmonton, Taste of Edmonton, Top Native Model, Capital X, Delia Grey Memorial Gala, National Aboriginal Day,
Big Breakfast Television, as well as CBC Centre Stage. Will was invited to perform at the prestigious RBC OHSHKII AWARDS NIGHT, a premier televised APCMA event where awards
were handed out and performances were given by some of the finest entertainment in the world. When will is not working on music he devotes time and energy to community based
youth projects in the City of Edmonton to inspire, enlighten and educate. He recently volunteered to teach a songwriting classes through Sun and Moon Visionaries and oversaw the process from beginning to end and students performed these songs at a well attended and highly successful showcase. Will is currently spearheading an Indigenous music festival for the fall of 2015 to be held here in the City of Edmonton.
With the completion and upcoming release of a new studio album entitled “Annie Baby” (2015)
Will and his band “the Hollywood Indians” will be kicking off a tour of North America the Fall of 2015 and plans are in the works for a tour in Europe. Music videos and the start of filming of “My Brother Sky” a documentary of Will and his musical journey are in the works as well as a host of other media related initiatives.
