Jacob Pratt is a Dakota/Saulteaux and a registered member of the Cote First Nations in Saskatchewan Canada.
Jacob currently attends the First Nations University of Canada. He is pursuing a degree in business. Once he has finished his undergraduate degree he wants to continue on to earn his Masters as well.
As a young child Jacob’s parents taught him and his sisters how to dance their traditional styles. Jacob dances what is known as Mens Traditional in the pow wow genre. He has now expanded his dance from the traditional style to include the Hoop Dance. In this style Jacob uses 15 hoops to tell stories by creating different formations depicting animals such as the eagle, bear and butterfly.
At the age of 14 years old Jacob started playing the traditional Native American Flute. After over a decade of practise, he is now sharing his talents with the world. Jacob has recently release his first CD entitled eagle calls. This was anticipated by family and friends for a long time.
One of Jacob’s passions is working with First Nations/Native American youth. He is a very experienced motivational speaker. Some of the primary areas that Jacob likes to address are on the topics of cultural preservation, youth empowerment, language revitalization, and education just to name a few. He also does workshops and teaches pow wow dance classes and even modelling workshops.
Modelling has been another area that Jacob was unexpectedly drawn into. He has worked with many different photographers and been in a number of fashion shows. With this he has done very well and is definitely looking to continue.
Lastly Jacob has recently become interested in breaking into acting. This is a new development but seemed natural with the progression of his career. We hope to see him soon on the big screen.
