Hand DrumCree

Tansi/hello, my name is Darryl Buck, I am from Northern Manitoba. I grew up on Mosakahikan and Opaskwayak Cree nations. These places are in The Pas and Moose Lake areas. Both small communities where I have lived most of my life. Also a recent resident of Winnipeg.

Growing up in a Cree family has allowed me to have a connection to traditions of the land, Cree language and ceremonies. All of which has profound impacts in my life in positive ways. It has given me an understanding of the spiritual aspects to the songs and the drum. This I feel very fortunate to have in my life. Which has helped me in many aspects, such as childhood to teen years, going into adulthood and has helped me raise a family of my own.

For the love of listening to recordings from drum brothers and CD collections of pow wow and round dance. Having aspirations, I started singing and attending round dance's. I found a lot of music in the Cree language that were a powerful inspiration to hear. In turn I have my own original songs.

Making round dance music has given me aspirations to share my work to the world. After seeing Northern Cree perform and nominated at the Grammys has made me want to further my round dance singing in many ways.

Travelling to many different cities, towns, communities in both Canada and United States attending/singing at round dances gives me the opportunity to sing and share my music to the world.

Also recently recorded and released my own solo album called 'HOPE' on August 18th 2017. Which I am very excited for.

Here are some links of my work on my YouTube channel:

You will see music from myself and also a visual to the setting in which takes place while singing round dance.

I want to thank you so much for your time and I hope you enjoy!

Warmest wishes,

Darryl Buck
