Merging the powerful beat of its drum with meaningful song lyrics, Young Spirit utilize its Pow-Wow singing to bring joy and healing. Started in the heart of the Frog Lake Cree First Nation, Young Spirit has endeared itself to the Pow-Wow trail and has won multiple singing championships in the process.
- Founded in 2001 in Frog Lake Cree First Nation, Young Spirit has quickly become one of the most in-demand and respected groups on the Pow-Wow trail. In 2013, Young Spirit became worldwide singing champions at the Gathering of Nations Pow-Wow in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- Showing the power of merging Indigenous musical expression with activism, Young Spirit has dedicated this album to all of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) and Girls. For decades, Indigenous women in Canada have been disappearing and dying violently at alarming rates. Red Dress Special is meant to remind the people of all Indigenous nations to stand up and look out for the women in their communities.
- Staying true to its mission to empower Native American and First Nations youth through music and language, most of the songs on this recording are sung in the Plain Cree language. The CD version of Red Dress Special contains a staggering 19 tracks while the digital version contains an additional 4 bonus tracks.
