Chippewa Travellers
1 Award1 Nomination
We are an Aniishinaabeg family drum group originally from Chippewas of Nawash, Cape Croker reservation (Neyaashingaming) in Ontario, Canada, but now reside in the Southern/Central area of Ontario. We are located on the eastern shore of the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula on Georgian Bay. Our nation is named in honour of Chief Nawash, who fought along side Tecumseh in the war of 1812. Our group has 15+ members and started singing as Chippewa Travellers in 1998. We are primarily a northern style drum group, but we also enjoy singing contemporary and southern styles when it is appropriate. Our group has grown up singing within the powwow (Helushka) society, and are very grateful to the many teachers, friends and family members who guided us in proper drum and powwow etiquette, and have supported us over the years.
